2019 Golden Mile Shiraz
Golden Mile
Limited Release - small batch wine
Golden Mile Shiraz Trio 3 bottle pack in a beautiful pine box available here
While Margaret River is known predominantly as a cabernet region, the Brown Hill site is particularly good for shiraz, and our senior winemaker Nathan Bailey has been working on this latest release for some years, trialling a combination of different oak barrels. The Burgundy oak barrels he finally chose are a combination of Louis Latour and François Frères, which together bring a range of complex flavours and textures to the wine. Made from Brown Hill’s best fruit and aged in a large portion of brand new oak for 18 months, then in the bottle for 18 months so far, this very special, straight shiraz style will benefit from up to 15 years’ cellaring.
This wine is named after the Golden Mile in Kalgoorlie/Boulder, which was once considered the richest square mile on earth, having produced 60 million ounces of gold and counting – the name is a reflection of the sheer quality of our shiraz, as well as our family’s heritage. Just 90 cases were made and our Wine Club customers had first access to this wine.
The nose is fragrant and intense with dark fruits and mocha. The palate offers bright cherries, cardamom pods and exotic spice, backed with tobacco and subtle, fine tannins.
