Top Halliday Rated Wines - 2021
Being a small boutique family-owned and operated winery means that we often do not submit our wines for review. Many of our wines sell out soon after release and we are very thankful to our loyal supporters for this. Mostly we are always so busy harvesting, winemaking, running our cellar door and organising deliveries to even think about sending our wines for review. However, we do take the time each year to submit our wines to our local wine writers and to the Halliday Wine Companion as a priority.
HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION
For those that are not familiar with the Halliday Wine Companion it is a highlight in the Australian wine calendar. James Halliday and his tasting panel rate the best Australian wines, winemakers and wineries in a variety of categories, announced in August each year. There is typically a gala event wine dinner held in Melbourne to announce the ratings however the event is now broadcast live online.
In 2021, judging for the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion was conducted by the full Halliday Tasting Team. All seven tasters – James Halliday, Tyson Stelzer, Ned Goodwin MW, Jane Faulkner, Erin Larkin, Tony Love and Jeni Port – nominated candidates from their respective regions and the winners decided through a series of tastings and round-table discussions.
JAMES HALLIDAY
James Halliday is a respected wine critic and vigneron with a career that spans almost 50 years. He is one of the founders of Brokenwood Wines in the Hunter Valley and Coldstream Hills in the Yarra Valley. He is the authority on every aspect of the Australian wine industry, is a recognised wine judge and a Member of the Order of Australia for his services to the wine industry.
BROWN HILL HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION AWARDED WINES
This year we thought we would examine our ratings and see which of our wines are the most awarded by the Halliday Wine Companion Awards. Our highest scoring wines with 96 points are our Bill Bailey Shiraz Cabernet and the exceptional 2012 and 2008 vintages received this amazing result. Our Perseverance Cabernet Merlot, Ivanhoe Cabernet Sauvignon, Croesus Merlot and Golden Horseshoe Chardonnay have all received over 95 points for various vintages which is also a fantastic result. We are very proud that our wines continue to receive such high accolades and we are pleased to announce that our wines that scored over 90 points in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion include:

Highest score was our 2012 vintage and our 2008 vintage both with 96 points. Our 2005, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages all received above 90 points.
Highest score was for our 2017, 2016 and 2014 vintage with 95 points, our 2017 vintage was also awarded Gold. Our 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017 vintages have all received above 90 points.
Great Boulder Shiraz Cabernet Merlot Malbec
Highest score was for our 2012 vintage with 94 points and our 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2016 vintages have all received above 90 points.
Highest score was for our 2016, 2014, 2012 and 2008 vintages with 94 points and our 2003, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages have all received over 90 points.
Ivanhoe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Highest score was for our 2015 vintage with 95 points. Our 2012 vintage received 94 points and our 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages have all received above 90 points.
Highest score was for our 2013 vintage with 95 points. Our 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 vintages all receiving above 90 points.
Golden Horseshoe Reserve Chardonnay
Highest score was our 2014 and 2013 vintages with 95 points. Our 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages all received over 90 points.
Highest score was our 2017 and 2014 vintage with 94 points. Our 2014, 2016 and 2017 vintages all scores above 93 points.
Highest score was our 2015 vintage with 93 points. Our 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016 vintages all received above 90 points.
